Turkmenistan and Romania Considering Black Sea – Caspian Transit Corridor Project

5 Дек

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan reports to have hosted a meeting with Adriana Stanescu, Romanian MFA’s Eastern Neighbourhood Relations Department Director General.

In the course of the talk Parties touched upon prospects of the bilateral cooperation in political, trade & economy, and culture spheres.

Particular attention was paid to the project of creating an international transport route Caspian – Black Sea, as per the report.

Parties have agreed to consider possibilities of organising top-level visits during 2020.

Let’s take note that Aşgabat and Bucharest for recent years have been invoking efforts towards creation of the Caspian – Black Sea transport corridor. It is expected that Constanța may become an EU transhipment hub for the cargoes carried from the Turkmen port Türkmenbaşy, as well as from Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in the light of ensuring access of the goods from Turkmenistan and other Central Asia countries to European markets.

The route of supplies implying engagement of special containers runs via the Caspian to Baku (Azerbaijan), further by rail to Batumi or Poti (Georgia, the Black Sea), and from there by sea to Romania.
